Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

The tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure is ideal for those female and male patients who have loose skin, weak abdominal muscles, and fatty tissues. Whereas liposuction removes the excess fatty layer alone, the tummy tuck removes excess skin and lax muscles can be tightened.

The mini tummy tuck treats the tissues in the lower abdomen to the navel and the full – tummy tuck treats the tissues above and below the navel. Dramatic results can be achieved but at a price. The incision can be obvious for some time although it is hidden in the bikini line.

These procedures are performed at The Mandell-Brown Plastic Surgery Center in Cincinnati, Ohio under general anesthesia, but can also be performed under intravenous sedation. The incision begins along the groin area, and can extend from hip to hip when significant tissue must be removed. The flap of skin is elevated and the rectus (6 pack) muscles are tightened with permanent sutures.

The excess skin and fat is that advanced downward and the excess tissues are removed. For the full tummy tuck, a new opening is made for the navel. Drains are often utilized for three to four days before removing. Recovery is one to two weeks.
