The Highly Effective Phenol Peel
A phenol peel is the deepest and most effective type of chemical peel. These peels can penetrate deeper into the skin layers than other peel options can, including TCA peels or AHA peels.
Phenol peels can solve harsh skin imperfections like acne scars, blotchiness, and coarse wrinkles. Compared to light and medium chemical peels, phenol peels can achieve more dramatic and effective results.
The best thing about phenol peels is that only a single treatment is required, so you won’t need to come back in for multiple peels. It’s important to remember that because the phenol peel is so strong, the recovery period afterwards is lengthier and slightly more uncomfortable than recovery from milder and gentler chemical peels.
The Benefits of a Phenol Peel
Phenol peels use carbolic acid to treat the abnormalities of the skin. The chemical solution that is used in phenol peels removes the damaged outer layers of the skin to reveal newer and smoother layers of skin.
Because a phenol peel is the most aggressive and effective type of skin peel, it can deliver impressive results. It is a very effective remedy for sun damage, coarse wrinkles, scars, and dangerous pre-cancerous growths. It can drastically improve the tone, texture, and pigmentation of the skin.
Phenol peels are so potent and powerful that you need only one treatment to achieve highly effective results that will last for years to come.
The procedure is not suitable for spot-treating areas of the face; instead, it should be used on the entire face.
Phenol Peel Application
Phenol peels are done under very carefully monitored conditions. For this procedure, the patient has to be put under sedation, and local anesthesia is used to numb the face in order to avoid pain and discomfort. Its chemical solution also contains an anesthetic that helps to numb the skin.
A phenol peel treatment usually takes about one to two hours to complete. After the patient is sedated, the chemical solution will be carefully applied onto the skin. The patient may experience a mild burning or tingling sensation during the primary application of the chemical solution.
After the phenol chemical solution has been applied and left on the skin for the appropriate amount of time, it will be washed off with lukewarm water. A soothing ointment – most often petroleum jelly – will be applied to the treated area. The patient will be given careful aftercare instructions and can return home to begin their recovery process.
The phenol peel typically results in some noticeable swelling, so patients are advised to stay at home for at least one week to allow for full recovery after their phenol chemical peel treatment. While recovery is taking place, the damaged skin will be peeling away to reveal the new and blemish-free skin cells.
