What Is DAXXIFY?

Daxxify bottle

DAXXIFY, or daxibotulinumtoxinA, is a neuromodulator toxin injected in small doses to put a pause on muscle movement. Temporarily blocking muscle movement helps overactive muscles relax, smoothing out wrinkles and preventing the creation of new ones.

This treatment works in the same way as Botox, but with a few upgrades. DAXXIFY uses a peptide as its stabilizer and is made with no animal or human byproducts. This makes the formula more stable and longer-lasting. Unlike Botox, DAXXIFY decreases movement in just two days, with results lasting four to six months.

Currently, DAXXIFY is only FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of frown lines. However, like all neuromodulator treatments, DAXXIFY can also be safely used off-label to improve crow’s feet, forehead lines, vertical neck bands, lip wrinkles, and chin wrinkles. DAXXIFY can also be injected into the underarms to reduce excessive sweating.

How Does DAXXIFY Work?

When injected into the treated area, DAXXIFY blocks the muscles from receiving signals from the nerves. This means that the muscles will find it hard to receive instructions to move. When the muscles become relaxed and settle into their at-rest position, the overlying bunched skin becomes smoother. As long as DAXXIFY remains effective in the treated muscle, future fine lines and wrinkles can also be prevented.

Am I a Good Candidate for DAXXIFY?

The best candidates for a DAXXIFY treatment are healthy individuals who want to improve fine age lines for a longer time than with other neuromodulators.

Candidates for DAXXIFY must have no allergic reaction to the formula. If an infection is present at the injection site, this condition must be treated before getting a DAXXIFY treatment.

DAXXIFY injections show the best results for nonsmokers. Smoking can shorten the effect of DAXXIFY in patients.

Your DAXXIFY Consultation

During the consultation, you will have an in-depth conversation about your appearance goals. Please provide your complete medical history to confirm your eligibility for the treatment. The selected area for treatment will be assessed to plan a safe and effective treatment.

You will be given an overview of the injection sites and your possible results to help you feel more comfortable with the treatment. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Dr. Mark Mandell-Brown is a frequent speaker at national soft tissue filler training programs.

What to Expect During a DAXXIFY Session

A DAXXIFY treatment can be as quick as 15 minutes and should not last longer than an hour. The session will begin with cleaning the injection sites. Once the areas for treatment are prepared and marked as a guide, DAXXIFY will be injected into the target muscles.

Most patients are recommended to receive 40 units of DAXXIFY per session. This will be divided into eight units (or 0.1 mL) per injection for five intramuscular injections. The number of units needed for each patient varies depending on the wrinkles being treated.
